Start with the yard
The best outdoor theater location has three things: a viewing area 12 to 20 feet from the screen spot, a backdrop that is dark after sunset (facing away from streetlights and the setting sun), and power within reasonable reach. Patios, pool decks, and open lawns all work. We assess yours during the visit — sun path, evening light, seating options.
The screen
Fixed-frame weatherproof screens give the best picture and are always ready. Retractable screens disappear when not in use — ideal for patios where a permanent screen would dominate. Inflatable screens are the budget portable option: fun for occasional use, but the surface is never perfectly flat. We recommend fixed or retractable for permanent installs.
Size for the distance: 100 to 150 inches diagonal is typical outdoors, where viewing distances run longer than indoors.
The projector
Outdoor projectors need to be bright — evening viewing starts at dusk, not full dark. We spec high-lumen models and house them in weatherproof enclosures with ventilation: sealed against rain and humidity, cooled for Florida heat, permanently mounted and aligned. One button starts movie night — no setup ritual.
Sound and weather
Weatherproof landscape speakers around the viewing area, aimed at the seats — directional, controlled, neighbor-conscious. A buried or disguised subwoofer adds real bass. Everything is outdoor-rated: UV-stable, moisture-resistant, corrosion-proof mounts.
The storm routine is simple: retractable screens roll up in seconds, the projector is sealed, speakers are built for rain. We walk you through it at handoff — a surprise shower is a two-minute pause, not a disaster.
